Billing Practices:
I try to maintain flexibility in my billing practices. I usually bill for my time. When I return your edited manuscript I also include a detailed invoice showing my time, hourly rate, and charges. Currently that rate is $140/hr. I am always happy to provide an informal estimate of the time required to edit a document. I make every effort to provide an accurate estimate. Informal estimates are non-binding; you will be billed for my actual time. I will inform you well in advance, however, if my charges are likely to exceed an informal estimate.
Some clients (and some institutions) want an exact quote for a job before engaging my service. I am happy to oblige. At your request, I will look over your manuscript, estimate the time it will take to edit, and provide a fixed-price quote. When the job is finished, you will be billed for that amount.
Rush Service:
I rarely accept requests for rush service. Occasionally, if I have the time available, I may accept such a request. If so, depending on the circumstances, I may require a 50% or 100% surcharge depending on the service requested. I will inform you of any surcharge beforehand, so there will be no surprises.
