Pricing:
BioMedical Science Writers charges between $10 and $15 per page (250 words) for editing services.
I try to maintain flexibility in my billing practices. I usually bill for my time. When I return your edited manuscript I also include a detailed invoice showing my time, hourly rate, and charges. Currently that rate is $75/hr. This generally works out to approximately $0.06 or less per word ($15/page). Well-written documents may come in around $0.04 per word ($10/page). Occasionally, documents with significant syntax or language problems may cost more than $0.06 per word. Very short documents may also cost more. References are not edited and are not counted in the word total.
Some clients (and some institutions) want an exact quote for a job before engaging my service. I am happy to oblige. At your request, I will look over your manuscript, estimate the time it will take to edit, and provide a fixed-price quote. When the job is finished, you will be billed for that amount.
Other clients may take a less formal approach. Some clients maintain an open account, intermittently sending a document or section of a document for editing. I simply track my time and periodically (approximately monthly) forward a detailed invoice.
Workload permitting, I will accommodate rush jobs. I do not charge extra for rush service. If I can fit it into my schedule, I will—just ask.
